Disaster to Destiny
Brian Cummings
We are, without a doubt in uncharted waters, facing unprecedented threats.
Political leaders, whatever their persuasion have had to deal with a seemingly insurmountable disaster. They're doing their best. Whatever the rights, wrongs differences or desires, leaders strive for safe practice. They've made mistakes, everyone does.
Experts, who themselves can only assume a sustained wind, to predict what might happen, have enlisted to charter a course to safety. This catastrophe is universal, any blame irrelevant, and there is no place for political posturing. We need to unite in attack.
The UK is called Great Britain for a purpose; that's because it's excellent.
The gossip-grubbing, point-scoring exercises, currently undertaken by some politicians and the media, basking in hindsight, have no place.
Respect, in the same way as its opposite number, is a two-way street and the last demonstration of democratic disrespect generated a colossal response. Labour should have learned that lesson well, perhaps SNP should take some notes. Constructive suggestion and a genuine desire to help might garner a modicum of respect.
The "What's, why's and wherefores" are for another time. This fight needs to be engaged now, and we need all the help we can get.
People of the UK are bright, resourceful, positive and intelligent. They are clear about what's happening and make no mistake about it, WILL reflect in the aftermath. Taking the lead in style. Clapping for frontline workers began with a member of the public, it is now almost institutionalised respect. Honorary Colonel Tom Moore established and highlighted the desire of the public to come forward and be counted. NHS frontline warriors have been acknowledged and cards relating to those managers who abandoned them, clearly marked. The farce that MP's created with Brexit is a pussy-cat compared with this. All politicians need to step forward constructively. Those backing Colonel Moore are neither interested in party politics or independence for Scotland. The immediate call is for a return to normality and emergence from this war to a brave new world.
It's time for our leaders to step up to the plate or prepare for a career change.
Constructive criticism is acceptable. The media needs to get the message, and quickly. Blame for the sake of it is boring and although sensational enough to sell to a world of fish-wives, both damaging and demoralising.
Again, step up to the plate!
Plastic People who crave the presence of photographers and publicity to pass wind and pontificate from Ivory towers… Don't Bother!
It's an ancient adage:
Those who can… Do. - Those who can't… Teach. (Preach.)
Singers are singers with gifted tones they are pleasant to hear. Sing Away!
Actors earn a living, pretending to be someone they're not, usually with words someone else has written. We enjoy their fantasy world. (Aware of fraudsters.)
Everywhere, doom and gloom, venerated by the media, is prevalent.
Hindsight is wonderful.
Experts swan out of the woodwork to fill columns and airtime with all the answers.
Where were they when they were needed?
Why were they silent as this virus hit us; if they have the answers?
People are resilient and resourceful. It can be seen everywhere. Respectful and appreciative of those at the front, taking risks to keep us safe. Homeschooling that brings children shining through. The isolation that separates them from grandparents. A separation that sees older folks parted unacceptably from loving families, to die alone, their only contact enabled by Skype and the bravery of a care worker. Soldiers (At times, the official Army.) who have stepped forward to put right the wrongs of officials who were paid to protect us and failed. Corner-shop entertainers, selflessly lifting the morale of those around them, without acknowledgement, reward or photographers.
They have made a difference here.
As in previous conflicts. "We will remember them."
The victims and heroes of this horrendous interlude, will be remembered with pride and the gratitude they so deservedly command.
Politicians, publicity-seeking plastics and those NHS officials who deserted our front line should also reflect on the manner with which we remember Lord HAW HAW!
Doom-sayers are already on the price. A recession of recessions is on its way. Life as we know it will never be the same. There will be job losses… We're all doomed!
Should we have just rolled over, let the virus take its toll? What was the point?
According to many, we're all doomed anyway, climate change is making sure of that!
Hang on?
We've not seen a rush-hour for two months.
Technology has slashed one, two, sometimes three-hour commutes to the time it takes to walk from the bathroom to the spare room and arrive 'at work.' No traffic jams, no queueing, the time spent travelling, now ours, and the fuel bill? Then a big cherry on the cake. - No carbon footprint!
The two or three-hour journey for a twenty-minute meeting, then similar to go home, is a non-starter. Rush-hour trips could be reduced to weekly catchup, camaraderie and motivational periods lasting a few hours, probably between eleven and two on a Wednesday, or staggered.
Covid-19 has presented a pathway through all this disruption to a brave new world. One that acknowledges our responsibility to the planet. One that replaces globalism with values centred on care, community and accountability.
I believe we have a vacancy!
WANTED: (Urgently)
A politician/leader with vision.
He must be honest, sincere and a good listener.
Able to harness our own skills and innovation to become self-sufficient. (Predictions tell us, with pending job-losses, this should be available in spades.)
Encourage a journey back to manufacturing, with environmental security central to its evolution. Cut the ties that bind us to intransigent globalists.
Consider how we engage with dark nations that are neither transparent or complimentary. Mafia-style management is unacceptable. Consider how we contribute. Turn the money tap off and help them flourish acceptably.
Apply soon if you are out there. We need you.
If nothing else comes from this disaster, the reality that we all need toilet paper should take the headline.
This virus, like a war, is indiscriminate. No matter how much worth, either money, power or influence, the result will always be the same.
We will all suffer and have suffered, some a lot more than others, in the process.
Let's move forward, not in pursuit of fame and fortune, but for each other and happiness.
We emerged from the last major conflict to change the world, dramatically for the better.
Let's stand together and be brave enough to repeat the process.
